Mrs. Cope's Class

Our class has been chosen to incorporate a PBL (project-based learning) program this year.  The program will include PBL scenarios, community service projects, critical/creative thinking exercises, STEM challenges and more.

Recently, our class started their first PBL project. Our project, “New Student Survival Kit”, will serve our school community and help new students feel welcome to Northwood.  Students have been brainstorming items that could be included in our new student kit. Ideas have ranged from a map of our school, school rules, a letter from other students welcoming the new student, and even school spirit items.  The students have been grouped together to collaborate and list the steps it takes to complete the project, as well as the purpose of the project. We are planning to incorporate the “New Student Survival Kit” here at Northwood as soon as the project is complete. My students have asked every day if we are working on the project. They are enjoying working together and are excited to see their own ideas come to life. It is amazing seeing third graders making a difference in their own community.
