Mrs. Donnell has taught for 6 years in Piedmont.  She has been teaching at Northwood for the last 5 year and she taught 1 year at Piedmont Primary before coming to Northwood.  Mrs. Donnell realizes in her classroom, there can be many different levels of needs at one time. She tries to see each child in a holistic manner and meet them at their own personal level. This means that she has to be very flexible because every day is a new day that might have different challenges for my kiddos.

Mrs. Donnell was nominated because she was described by one of her peers as being “a passionate educator and learner. She is always willing to help teachers and parents even if she doesn't have their kid.  She finds creative ways to help any child or teacher to help the kids learn better or easier. Not only is she completing her master's degree in administration but is continuing on to earn her doctorate. She is always trying to learn more by going to classes or professional development.

She is a positive influence within our building and is always willing to help out anyone who needs her. She is seen as a valuable resource and shares and practices innovative teaching ideas and learning activities.  She volunteered her house for the float and spent her time and money on the float and they made everyone dinner! It is an honor to be able to work with her!”

When asked about being voted as Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Donnell said, “It is humbling, and an honor to be chosen as Northwood’s Teacher of the Year by my peers. I work with some of the most outstanding teachers in the state. These wonderful colleagues have created a supportive environment that enables each teacher to reach unbelievable goals. When I have a question or a situation gets challenging, there is always someone to collaborate with no matter the grade level. I would not be the teacher I am today without them. I hope that I can represent my peers to the fullest extent. There is not a better group of people to come to work with every day”.
